Bicycle riding is great for all people and the area of the Maremma is really well provisioned for enjoying the fresh air on your bike. So much so that the area has become recognised over the years by professional riders and race organisers that have decided to hold some of the most important races in the calendar in the Maremma. Almost every year the Giro D’Italia makes an appearance in or around the area and in the last few years mountain biking has become extremely popular. In 2013 Punta Ala Camping Resort introduced us to the Endure World Series by holding the very first race ever near Punta Ala. Every year racing takes place on specially prepared trails that are then opened to the public after the racing. The organisers always try to make the trail accessible to all types of rider despite the more energetic nature of off road bike racing. Most recently Massa Marittima hosted the Superenduro mountain bike race starting in it’s historical centre on the hills that over look the coastline. We managed to capture a few images from the event that shows the world how amazing the trails are and the atmosphere for riding you bike in the hills of the Maremma.
There are many places where you can ride your bicycle in the area, which we will be covering in detail over the next year. There are also many holiday centres in the area that have bicycle services. If you like riding mountain bikes then Punta Ala Trail Centre located in Camping Punta Ala is a great place to start. If you are staying in Castiglione della Pescaia then Camping Village Baia Azzurra and Camping Village Rocchette are a great place to rent a bike from if you wish to ride through the wooded area close to Rocchette. There are also many places to rent bicycles in and around Castiglione della Pescaia, which we will cover soon with a family ride information.
