Tuscany has so many hill top towns it is difficult to know which one is worth a visit if you have limited time. Castiglione though is lucky as wether by day or night it is a great place to visit, In this case at night it offers a special atmosphere.
Around 20:00 the night starts to liven up as people go out to dinner or take a stroll through town. With the sun setting behind the hill the water front becomes a moody place with the lights from the town and the colours of the sky reflecting off the water.
Head into the centre and the main street is busy with bars starting to bustle with the happy sounds of people enjoying an apperativo after a day at the beach. Wander a bit up the hill into the old town and you will find the atmospheric feeling of some small restaurants and inviting streets lit by well placed street lights that give a more dramatic feel to an already quaint medieval town.
Walk to the top of the hill near the castle and you can look out over the entire bay and if your lucky under a full moon watch appreciate a pretty stunning location.
Back down into the centre you will find all the craft shops open until late and the feeling that the village never sleeps. An ideal place to bring the whole family in the evening for a wander, meal, or change of scenery after a day on the beach.
