The coastal area of this part of Tuscany is characterised by long sandy beaches and rocky hills.
In some cases these beaches are hidden by the rocky hills which means that one can combine a walk and beach visit all in an afternoon's excursion.
Cala Violina is one of those beautiful hidden away beaches that meets these ideal characteristics, so we went on a walk through the forest and wooded hills to discover the views and make our way to the beach.
The area of interest is located between Punta Ala and Follonica, just off the SP158 road.
For this particular day we choose a 6 km round walk that is of a fairly easy pace that takes us up over the ridge line that separates the coastal area from the hinterland. We started our route from the car park that is open year round. The route is well marked with footpath indications and in addition we have provided a GPS track to help you find your way that we recorded on our walk.
